Dave Filoni Talks The Mandalorian & Grogu: Grogu’s ‘Become Such a Star’

Dave Filoni has provided an update on The Mandalorian & Grogu.

The Mandalorian & Grogu is a forthcoming Star Wars movie that is directed by Jon Favreau. Co-written by Favreau and Filoni and a continuation of the Disney+ The Mandalorian series, the film is scheduled to be released in United States theaters in 2026.

Speaking with ExtraTV, Filoni was asked if there was anything he could share about The Mandalorian & Grogu.

While Filoni didn’t divulge any plot details, he did note that he’s “very” excited about the film and went on to discuss how Grogu has evolved over the years. Filoni also confirmed that production on the movie, which began in the summer of 2024, has now officially wrapped.

What did Dave Filoni say about The Mandalorian & Grogu?

“Jon and I had a great time working on that, as we always do,” he said. “It was great seeing Grogu. He’s become such a star. It’s amazing how it’s evolved. What we can do now with the puppetry compared to Season 1 and where we are today in a film. Working with a team — I worked quite a bit with them on the puppetry legacy effects. They did a fantastic job, and what a wonderful little creation Grogu is.”

Story details for The Mandalorian & Grogu remain under wraps at this time.

Pedro Pascal reprises his role from The Mandalorian as Din Djarin in the movie, with Grogu and Zeb Orrelios also slated to appear. Sigourney Weaver — who is no stranger to the sci-fi genre, as she’s played key roles in both the Alien and Ghostbusters franchises — has been cast in a mystery role.

The Mandalorian & Grogu will be released in United States theaters on May 22, 2026, from Lucasfilm and Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. The first three seasons of The Mandalorian, meanwhile, are currently streaming on Disney+.
