Sam Wilson actor Anthony Mackie recently praised Marvel Studios for not getting rid of the grounded nature of the Captain America franchise for the fourth installment, Brave New World.
Speaking at the Disney APAC Content Showcase in Singapore on Wednesday, November 20, Mackie praised Marvel for keeping the Captain America movies grounded. Despite being set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Captain America movies tend not to get too fantastical, featuring characters and action sequences rooted in reality.
“If you look at these Marvel movies, they go with different genres,” explained Mackie. “You have the fantasy world, you have the space world, you have the raccoon world. With the Captain America stories, it has always been the realistic, grounding world.”
The actor then hyped up Captain America: Brave New World, the first installment in the series to feature Sam Wilson as Captain America, by adding, “This movie stays in the line with the original Captain America, of that thrill, of that espionage, of that grounded nature with storytelling and really investing the actual audience into the story.”
What happens in Captain America: Brave New World?
While Mackie’s comments suggest that Brave New World will be similar to the first two Captain America movies — The First Avenger (2011) and The Winter Soldier (2014) — which have been praised by critics and fans for their grounded nature, the upcoming Marvel movie will still have some fantastical elements, such as the arrival of Red Hulk. The gamma-infused villain is the alter ego of Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, who will be portrayed by Harrison Ford in the movie.

In Captain America: Brave New World, Sam Wilson finds himself at the center of an international incident following the election of Thaddeus Ross as the president of the United States and must work to stop the true masterminds behind it.
The cast that includes Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres/Falcon and Tim Blake Nelson as Samuel Sterns/Leader, Captain America: Brave New World is slated to open in theaters on February 14, 2025, as part of Phase 5 of the MCU.
