Marvel Studios Is Now ‘Obsessed’ With Channing Tatum’s Gambit, Says Ryan Reynolds

Marvel Studios is now “obsessed” with Channing Tatum’s Gambit following his role in 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine.

Having unsuccessfully tried to get a Gambit movie off the ground for years, Tatum finally got to play the iconic character in Deadpool & Wolverine, which was released in United States theaters this past July.

Many fans have since praised Tatum’s performance in the movie, with Tatum openly stating that he’d still love to move forward with a Gambit solo movie should he get the chance to do so.

Speaking on Entertainment Weekly’s Awardist podcast, Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds believes Marvel Studios might be willing to give him that opportunity.

What did Ryan Reynolds say about Marvel and Channing Tatum’s Gambit?

“I honestly don’t know what goes on behind closed doors in the bookkeeping sessions at Marvel, but I do know that they’re obsessed with him in that role,” Reynolds said. “It’s kind of like the same situation I went through. Once you show that it works well, that’s really what they need. Sometimes they just need to see it in action.”

Before 2016’s Deadpool was released, Reynolds wanted to play the character in a solo superhero movie for years. The project looked like it was dead following the negative reactions to 2011’s Green Lantern; however, Deadpool test footage was leaked online in July 2014 to an overwhelmingly enthusiastic response, which then convinced Fox to move forward.

Reynolds added about Tatum, “And Channing is so singular in how he plays that character, but also he’s so beautiful physically, the way he moves and the way he can pick up steps.”

At this time, no MCU Gambit solo movie has been announced by Marvel Studios. It has not also been announced if Tatum’s Gambit will be featured in any of the upcoming ensemble pictures, be it an Avengers or X-Men movie.

Deadpool & Wolverine will begin streaming on Disney+ on November 12, 2024.
