James Gunn has shot down rumors that music star Dua Lipa will be appearing in the DC Universe for the next decade.
Recently, rumors have begun flying that Dua Lipa had signed a massive, 10-year-long contract to play the character of Zatana in the DCU. The rumor was shared by the popular Instagram account DeuxMoi, but Gunn took to Threads to address the noise.
James Gunn debunks Dua Lipa’s casting rumor for DC’s Zatana
In a response to a Threads post, Gunn called the news officially “debunked” and said that not only was it not true, but the concept of a 10-year deal was silly in and of itself as well.
“Until this moment it was neither of those things but as of now it’s debunked as well. ’10 year contract’? Do they think this is the 1930’s? I’m a Dua Lipa fan, but no,” said Gunn in a response on Threads.
Gunn also clarified how contracts are usually done, telling a fan who asked about David Corenswet’s contract status with the DCU that, usually, actors sign on for multiple projects instead of a number of years.
Although Dua Lipa won’t be showing up in the DCU, Gunn did recently reveal that Benjamin Byron Davis would be showing up as Rupert Thorne in the upcoming animated series Creature Commandos. That series will be the official kick-off to the DCU when it premieres on December 5, 2024.
