What happens in the Thunderbolts* trailer?

The Thunderbolts* trailer largely focuses on Pugh’s Yelena Belova. After visiting her father, Alexi Shostakov/Red Guardian (Harbour), Yelena finds herself lured to a warehouse where she finds Wyatt Russell’s John Walker/U.S. Agent, Olga Kurylenko’s Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster, Hannah John-Kamen’s Ava Starr/Ghost, and Pullman’s Bob Reynolds/Sentry.

The group realizes that someone is likely trying to kill them for reasons that remain to be seen. There is also footage of Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, while Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes appears to be on his own mission that will see him cross paths with the aforementioned characters.

Harrison Ford’s Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross is also expected to appear in the movie, while Geraldine Viswanathan is playing Valentina Allegra de Fontaine’s assistant.

Schreier’s previous filmography includes 2012’s Robot & Frank and 2015’s Paper Towns. He has also directed episodes of Lodge 49, Netflix’s Beef, and the upcoming Disney+ Star Wars: Skeleton Crew series.

Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige previously confirmed that the asterisk in Thunderbolts* is officially part of the film’s title; however, what it means remains unclear at this time. Feige said that “we won’t talk more about that until after the movie comes out” when speaking at CinemaCon 2024 this past May.

Thunderbolts* will officially be released in United States theaters on May 2, 2025, as part of Phase 5 of the MCU. Prior to that, Marvel will first release Captain America: Brave New World on February 14, 2025, while Fantastic Four: The First Steps arrives on July 25, 2025.
