The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Vanessa Kirby on Filming MCU Movie: ‘We’re Having a Great Time’

Vanessa Kirby says that everyone is having a great time filming The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

Kirby is playing Sue Storm in Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which officially began production in late July. The film also stars Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm.

Speaking with Entertainment Tonight at the Toronto International Film Festival for the premiere of Ron Howard’s Eden, which Kirby appears in alongside Jude Law and Sydney Sweeney, the Mission: Impossible star was asked about her experiences filming the new MCU Fantastic Four movie thus far.

What did Vanessa Kirby say about The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ production?

“I just came from set,” she said. “I’m flying back tonight in about two hours to go back onto set. It’s quite surreal. I’m loving [Sue]. I love her so much. I love her in the comics, I’m honored to play her. I love Ebon, Joe, and Pedro. We’re having a great time.”

She also said of working with Pascal, “ He’s everything. I love him. We’re having such a good time. I can’t say enough amazing stuff about him.”

Directed by Matt Shakman, The Fantastic Four: First Steps also stars Julia Garner as Shalla-Bal/Silver Surfer and Ralph Ineson as Galactus. Paul Walter Hauser, John Malkovich, and Natasha Lyonne have additionally been tapped to play undisclosed characters in the film, while it’s currently unclear if Robert Downey Jr., who is now playing Victor von Doom following his stint as Iron Man, will appear.

Plot details remain largely under wraps at this time, though it is known that the movie will be a period piece set in the 1960s. It will also take place in a separate universe from Marvel’s main reality.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps will be released in United States theaters on July 25, 2025, as part of Phase 6 of the MCU.
