Kraven the Hunter Gets Official Rating, Contains Strong Bloody Violence

Kraven the Hunter will officially be rated R.

Kraven the Hunter is an upcoming superhero movie based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name that is part of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe. The film will be released in United States theaters this December.

While it was assumed that Kraven the Hunter would be rated R given that a red-band trailer for the movie was released in June 2023, it has now been made official. Per FilmRatings, Kraven the Hunter will be rated R for “strong bloody violence, and language.”

Thus far, all of the movies in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe — 2018’s Venom, 2021’s Venom: Let There Be Carnage, 2022’s Morbius, and 2024’s Madame Web — have been rated PG-13. A third Venom movie, Venom: The Last Dance, releases in theaters on October 25, 2024. Tom Hardy has hinted that the new Venom movie could be rated R, though it does not yet have an official rating at this time.

What do we know about Kraven the Hunter?

Kraven the Hunter stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the titular character, Ariana DeBose as Calypso, Fred Hechinger as Dmitri Smerdyakov/Chameleon, Alessandro Nivola as Aleksei Sytsevich/Rhino, Christopher Abbott as the Foreigner, and Russell Crowe as Nikolai Kravinoff.

Taylor-Johnson previously told Rolling Stone about his role in the movie, “I think there was something unique about this character, and something grounded. We’ve all had enough of seeing certain studio films, a certain kind of pop culture… where they’re churning out stuff that dilutes wanting to go to the cinema. I wouldn’t have signed onto it if I felt there wasn’t something to really bring to life with this character.

The film is directed by J. C. Chandor, who previously made 2011’s Margin Call, 2013’s All Is Lost, 2014’s A Most Violent Year, and 2019’s Triple Frontier.

Kraven the Hunter will be released in United States theaters on December 13, 2024.
