Giancarlo Esposito Says Nobody Has Guessed Who He’s Playing in Captain America: Brave New World

Giancarlo Esposito says that nobody has correctly guessed who he is playing in Captain America: Brave New World.

Esposito is starring in the fourth Marvel Studios’ Captain America movie, which is being led by Anthony Mackie; however, it remains unclear who the Breaking Bad actor is playing in the film. Esposito is believed to have been cast as a villain, with one of the more prominent theories being that he is G.W. Bridge.

Speaking at a convention this past weekend (via ComicBookMovie), however, Esposito said that “no one” has figured out who his MCU character is.

“The character I’m playing is a badass,” he said. “That always excites me. For me to develop that character in line with the character’s inception is a fascinating art for me. I had an incredible time shooting it. I’m not telling you who I’m playing…people are trying to guess and no one has guessed correctly yet.”

What is Captain America: Brave New World about?

“After meeting with newly elected U.S. President Thaddeus Ross, played by Harrison Ford in his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut, Sam finds himself in the middle of an international incident,” the official synopsis reads. “He must discover the reason behind a nefarious global plot before the true mastermind has the entire world seeing red.”

Along with Mackie, Esposito, and Ford, Marvel’s Captain America: Brave New World stars Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres/Falcon, Shira Haas as Ruth Bat-Seraph, Carly Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley, Liv Tyler as Betty Ross, Tim Blake Nelson as Samuel Sterns/Leader, Xosha Roquemore, Seth Rollins, and Rosa Salazar.

Directed by Julius Onah, Captain America: Brave New World releases in United States theaters on February 14, 2025, as part of Phase 5 of the MCU.

The first three Captain America movies, meanwhile, along with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, are all currently streaming on Disney+.
