Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow Taps Director for DCU Movie

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow has found its director, with The Hollywood Reporter noting that Craig Gillespie will direct the upcoming DC Universe film.

Gillespie is best known for his work Gillespie has worked on a number of high-profile movies recently, including directing 2017’s I, Tonya, 2021’s Cruella, and most recently 2023’s Dumb Money, which starred Paul Dano, Pete Davidson, and more.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is said to be based on Tom King’s 2021-2022 comic book series, which Bilquis Evely illustrated. The film stars Milly Alcock, who will play the titular role of Kara Zor-El, and will be written by Ana Nogueira and produced by DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran.

What is Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow about?

“We will see the difference between Superman, who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he was an infant, versus Supergirl, who was raised on a rock, a chip off Krypton and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life, and then came to Earth when she was a young girl,” said Gunn of the project in 2023. “She’s much more hardcore; she’s not exactly the Supergirl we’re used to seeing.”

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will be based on Tom King’s 2021-2022 comic book series, which was illustrated by Bilquis Evely. No director has been set for the upcoming project.
