Captain America 4: Anthony Mackie Compares Working in the MCU to Twisted Metal

Captain America: Brave New World star Anthony Mackie has revealed what makes acting in the Marvel Cinematic Universe different from his work on the Peacock series Twisted Metal.

“I would say the Marvel thing is completely different, just because it’s such a space of controlled entertainment,” Anthony Mackie said in an interview with RadioTimes. “Like, there’s only so much you can do. There’s only so much creativity you can bring to the table, because Stan Lee gave us so much content. Whereas with this [Twisted Metal], it was like, ‘There’s a guy and a girl… go!’ So we were really able to build the world around it.”

Based on the popular Sony Playstation video game franchise, Twisted Metal sees Mackie play amnesiac milkman John Doe who must survive traveling a near-desolate America with a mysterious package. Along the way, he gets targeted by several vicious killers in vehicular combat vehicles. Despite the series’ mixed reception from critics, Twisted Metal has proven popular on Peacock and has recently been renewed for a second season.

Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson takes over as Captain America

Meanwhile, back in the MCU, Mackie is hard at work in the middle of reshoots for the fourth Captain America installment which sees Sam Wilson embrace the shield passed down to him by Steve Rogers during the final moments of Avengers: Endgame. Directed by Julius Onah, Brave New World co-stars Danny Ramirez from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Liv Tyler as Betty Ross, Harrison Ford as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, Tim Blake Nelson as Samuel Sterns/Leader, Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley, and Shira Haas as Ruth Bat-Seraph/Sabra.

Captain America: Brave New World is scheduled for release on February 14, 2025.
