Sydney Sweeney was a star in 2024’s Madame Web, and despite the film flopping and now being subject to ridicule and jokes, the actress isn’t too fazed by the matter.
Speaking to The Los Angeles Times, Sweeney said she was open to any reception for the movie, and referred to herself as simply an actress. “I was just hired as an actress in it, so I was just along for the ride for whatever was going to happen,” explained Sweeney.
Madame Web widely criticized amongst critics and fans
In Madame Web, Sweeney starred as Julia Cornwall/Spider-Woman, a role that was widely critiqued due to Sweeney only appearing in the Spider-Woman suit a handful of times in the film.
Alongside Sweeney, Madame Web also starred Dakota Johnson, Isabela Merced, Celeste O’Connor, and Tahar Rahim. Following its release, Madame Web was a critical and box office failure. The movie earned just $91.3 million at the box office against its $80 million budget.
The film also was widely panned on social media, with star Sydney Sweeney even cracking jokes about the movie during her recent Saturday Night Live monologue.
