Daisy Ridley Talks Rey Skywalker Star Wars Movie Title, Gives Script Update

Daisy Ridley sets the record straight about the status of the future Star Wars installment featuring Rey Skywalker.

Appearing at SXSW to promote her latest movie Magpie, Ridley spoke to Steven Weintraub of Collider when she was asked about the rumored “New Jedi Order” title for her Star Wars project. “I don’t know! I mean, I think so. From the announcement, I don’t think that’s changed,” Ridley said. Though the star has yet to see a completed script, Ridley confirmed that “a script is happening, and I’m going to be reading it imminently, which is very exciting.”

Ridley did not share plot details for Rey Skywalker’s next chapter in the Star Wars Universe. When she spoke to AlloCiné in January, however, she teased how this project would be different from anything seen in the franchise.

So I thought about it for a little bit, and once I knew what the story was and everything, I knew it was something I really wanted to do,” Ridley said. “I think it’s a really fantastic exploration of the Star Wars world. It’s a really cool way of taking the story on in a bit of a different direction.”

Announced by Lucasfilm at Star Wars Celebration Europe 2023, the untitled Rey Skywalker movie will see the return of the new Jedi Master in events set 15 years after 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of SkywalkerSharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (Ms. Marvel) is set to helm the movie with a screenplay by Steven Knight based on an earlier draft by Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson.

The big screen future of Star Wars

The Rey Skywalker project is not the only Star Wars movie coming to the big screen soon. The Mandalorian & Grogu will make their leap from Disney+ to the cinemas with series creator Jon Favreau set to direct and could go into production in June. Additionally, James Mangold has an untitled Star Wars movie in early development about the dawning of the Force while The Mandalorian’s Dave Filoni will direct a feature surrounding the conflict between the New Republic and Imperial Remnants.

The untitled Rey Skywalker Star Wars movie does not have a release date.
