Dave Bautista Is Open to Playing a Different Role in the MCU

Dave Bautista is open to playing a role other than Drax the Destroyer in the MCU.

Speaking with Gizmodo, Bautista was asked if he was truly done working with Marvel Studios following the release of the third Guardians of the Galaxy movie.

“No, no,” Bautista answered. “When I said that I was done, I was really just done with my journey as Drax. I still have a relationship with Marvel. I’ve seen Kevin Feige again, Lou [D’Esposito] as recently as two weeks ago. And they know that I would be up for a role. I love the universe—the superhero universe, I love it. I’m a fan. So Marvel or DC, if they call, I would answer the phone. And if the role makes sense, I’d be all over it. I just would like the opportunity to do a bigger role, a different role. Maybe a deeper role. I’d love to have the opportunity to play, like an ominous villain in the superhero universe. Yeah. But never. I’m not done with it. But my journey with Drax is over.”

What MCU movies has Dave Bautista been in?

Bautista debuted as Drax in 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Along with 2017’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and 2023’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, he also reprised the role in 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War, 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, 2022’s Thor: Love and Thunder, and 2022’s The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special.

The Dune: Part Two actor has also been vocal about being willing to join James Gunn and Peter Safran’s forthcoming DCU, as Bautista recently told ComicBook.com he’d be willing to work with Gunn again “for free” should the opportunity come along.

“We just haven’t had the conversations,” Bautista said. “He’s on top of DC now. He’s doing his thing. I’m trying to grind along in my processing. But, I’m always open-minded too, and I’ve expressed that to him.”
