Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse directors Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson have discussed Miguel/Spider-Man 2099‘s design and revealed the character was intentionally made a “thirst trap” in the sequel.
Speaking with Collider, Thompson and Dos Santos went back and forth about how they specifically worked on making Miguel’s character attractive, with Thompson saying he put himself in charge of “making Miguel the thirst trap.”
“From day one, I said, ‘I’m on butt duty.’ I wanna make sure his butt is as tight as possible,” Thompson stated. “‘I want close-ups. I wanna get the camera there, and I want him to turn. I want his back to the camera when we first introduce him, so you can really appreciate it’ … I was surprised by how far it went, though.”
