Thunderbolts MCU update

Thunderbolts: New Plot Details Reportedly Emerge, The Bear Writer Attached to MCU Movie

New plot details have reportedly emerged for Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, a source who read a previous draft of Marvel’s upcoming Thunderbolts says the movie “centers on villains and antiheroes going on a mission that was supposed to end with their deaths.”

The Hollywood Reporter’s article states Joanna Calo, the co-showrunner/writer/executive producer for FX’s The Bear, has also been hired to work on the script for Thunderbolts. Carlo has also worked on television series such as Beef, The Baby-Sitters Club, BoJack Horseman, Tuca & Bertie, and more.

Who stars in Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts?

Thunderbolts stars Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Wyatt Russell as John Walker/U.S. Agent, Olga Kurylenko as Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster, David Harbour as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, Hannah John-Kamen as Ava Starr/Ghost, Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, and Harrison Ford as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross.

Lewis Pullman is also being eyed to replace Steven Yeun in the ensemble movie, though his casting has not been officially confirmed by Marvel Studios at this time. Drive-Away Doll’s Geraldine Viswanathan, meanwhile, recently replaced Ayo Edebiri (who also stars in The Bear) in an undisclosed role.

Thunderbolts is being directed by Jack Schreier, who previously made 2012’s Robot & Frank and 2015’s Paper Towns. The movie was supposed to begin filming in June 2023; however, it was delayed because of the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) strikes.

With the strikes now over, Thunderbolts is looking to begin production this March in Atlanta.

Having recently switched release dates with The Fantastic Four, Thunderbolts is now scheduled to hit United States theaters on May 2, 2025, as part of Phase Five of the MCU.
