Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania star Kathryn Newton reveals if she was told in advance about the Young Avengers setup for the conclusion of The Marvels.
“I did! I heard through the Quantum Realm birdies. I heard that there was a cool tag, and I was pretty excited to see that and hear that,” Newton said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter while promoting her latest project, Lisa Frankenstein.
“In the Marvel universe, you hope for [the possibility of being a Young Avenger]. You hope to be. My whole thing is that I grew up watching Iron Man, and I feel like I grew with that character. So my hope for Cassie Lang has always been to grow with my audience, be it the people who are my age and saw [Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania], or the people who are just starting to watch Marvel movies at a young age. I saw one when I was a little young, but I still love those movies. So if I get an opportunity to continue the story, then that would be so cool to be a part of a generation that’s growing up with a film. It’s such a big part of my life. But they don’t really tell you. They tell you an overall, but I don’t take anything for granted. I am just trying to get through the day. Let’s finish one movie and then let’s continue. But I would very much also jump at the opportunity to work with Marvel Studios again.”
The finale of The Marvels saw Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) inspired to form her own superhero team by offering a spot to Hawkeye‘s Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld). Additionally, Kamala refers to the existence of Ant-Man’s daughter Cassie Lang, played by Newton in Quantumania.
Were other Young Avengers planned to appear in The Marvels?
Though established MCU characters such as Riri Williams/Ironheart (Dominique Thorne), America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez), Skaar (Wil Deusner), and Kid Loki (Jack Veal) had been part of the Young Avengers lineup in the comics, Vellani was hesitant to reveal if those characters were originally planned to cameo in The Marvels finale.
“I don’t know. I don’t know what the rules are for scenes that were cut, like, am I still supposed to keep those secrets,” Vellani asked. “I’ll say, whatever names you can guess are probably right. Like, there’s not that many young people in the MCU right now.”
The Marvels begins streaming on Disney+ on February 7. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is now streaming on Disney+.
