One of Willem Dafoe‘s most iconic roles is his turn as Norman Osborn/The Green Goblin in the Spider-Man franchise, a role Dafoe is happy to have seen bridge generations.
Dafoe recently participated in a video for Variety where he guessed some of his most notable lines, one of which was his role as Norman in the original Sam Raimi Spider-Man film in 2002. Dafoe spoke about the preparation for the role, then reflected on seeing multiple generations love the character.
“But then 20 years later to revisit it was really cool,” Dafoe said. “Sometimes you run into people and they say, ‘Oh, I saw the original Spider-Man when I was a kid, and now I took my son to it.’ So it’s kind of a sweet thing that bridges two generations of moviegoers.”
Spider-Man: No Way Home was a smash hit for Marvel Studios
Following its release, Spider-Man: No Way Home very quickly became a box office smash, earning nearly $2 billion during its time in theaters and becoming the highest-grossing film of 2021, as well as the sixth-highest-grossing film of all time. The film also kickstarted its own set of rumors, with many wondering if either Tobey Maguire or Andrew Garfield — both of whom reprised their roles as Spider-Man in the film — would return in future films.
