The Bear Star Addresses Rumored Fantastic Four Casting

The Bear star Ebon Moss-Bachrach recently addressed rumors that he has been cast as The Thing in Marvel Studios‘ upcoming Fantastic Four reboot during a red carpet interview at the 75th Emmys.

Speaking with The Wrap, the actor — who snagged the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series at that evening’s ceremony — was asked about recent online rumors stating that he had signed on to portray Ben Grimm/The Thing in Fantastic Four. “Oh, I can’t confirm, and I can’t deny, I think,” he coyly replied.

Who else is rumored for Marvel Studios’ Fantastic Four reboot?

Besides Moss-Bachrach as The Thing, insiders have stated that Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, and Joseph Quinn are locked in to portray Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman, and Johnny Storm, The Human Torch, respectively, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Additionally, Mads Mikkelsen and Javier Bardem have reportedly been approached for the respective lead villain roles of Doctor Doom and Galactus. Mikkelsen previously played the villain Kaecilius in 2016’s Doctor Strange; however, Marvel has cast the same actor in multiple roles before, such as Gemma Chan, who played both Minn-Erva in 2019’s Captain Marvel and Sersi in 2021’s Eternals.

It is worth mentioning that Marvel Studios has not officially revealed any casting for Fantastic Four, although an announcement is reportedly set to happen shortly, according to insiders like Daniel Richtman.

Fantastic Four was first announced by Marvel Studios at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2019, with Spider-Man: No Way Home’s Jon Watts attached to direct. However, he stepped down in April 2022 and was replaced with WandaVision’s Matt Shakman. Principal photography is expected to begin in Q3 of 2024.

Fantastic Four is currently scheduled to hit theaters on May 2, 2025, as part of Phase 6 of the MCU.
