Fantastic Four production start date

Fantastic Four Production Start Date Reportedly Revealed for MCU Movie

Marvel’s Fantastic Four reboot reportedly won’t go into production until July 2024 at the earliest.

According to Jeff Sneider’s The InSneider, the MCU’s Fantastic Four reboot is looking to begin filming in Q3 (between July and September) of 2024. The movie, directed by Matt Shakman, is currently scheduled to release on May 2, 2025.

Sneider’s article also says that Pedro Pascal, who Deadline previously reported was in talks to play Reed Richards in the upcoming film, had to drop out of Zach Cregger’s Weapons in order to fit both Fantastic Four and The Last of Us Season 2 into his schedule.

It’s also likely that Pascal has to make room in his schedule to film a new Star Wars movie as Lucasfilm recently announced The Mandalorian & Grogu, a new movie being directed by Jon Favreau that will release in theaters, is in the works.

What else do we know about Marvel’s Fantastic Four reboot?

There’s been no shortage of rumors regarding who will play the rest of Marvel’s First Family, with some of the more prominent theories being Vanessa Kirby as The Invisible Woman/Sue Storm, Joseph Quinn as The Human Torch/Johnny Storm, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing/Ben Grimm; however, Marvel has yet to officially confirm any Fantastic Four casting, including Pascal.

The MCU’s Fantastic Four reboot was officially announced at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2019. Spider-Man: No Way Home’s Jon Watts was originally attached to direct the movie, though he stepped down in April 2022 and was replaced with WandaVision’s Shakman.

Fantastic Four is currently scheduled to release in United States theaters on May 2, 2025; although, depending on how long production and postproduction take, the release date may be hard for Marvel Studios to make with a Q3 filming start date.
