Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire Gets New Release Date

In a surprise move, Sony Pictures has moved up the Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire release date. The film, which was originally set for a March 29, 2024 release, will now release a week earlier on March 22, 2024.

The highly anticipated next entry in the series is being directed by Gil Kenan from a screenplay he co-wrote with Jason Reitman. The next chapter in the Spengler family story will also feature the return of the main cast, including Carrie Coon, Paul Rudd, and Mckenna Grace.

What do we know about Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire?

“In Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, the Spengler family returns to where it all started — the iconic New York City firehouse — to team up with the original Ghostbusters, who’ve developed a top-secret research lab to take busting ghosts to the next level,” reads the movie’s official synopsis. “But when the discovery of an ancient artifact unleashes an evil force, Ghostbusters new and old must join forces to protect their home and save the world from a second Ice Age.”

Made under the working title “Firehouse,” the upcoming Ghostbusters: Afterlife sequel marks the fifth theatrically released movie in the Ghostbusters franchise following 1984’s Ghostbusters, 1989’s Ghostbusters II, 2016’s Ghostbusters (a reboot with a separate continuity), and 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife.
