The Mandalorian & Grogu Star Wars Movie Is Headed to Theaters

A new Star Wars movie, The Mandalorian & Grogu, will be headed to movie theaters.

Per StarWars.com, Lucasfilm is developing a brand-new The Mandalorian & Grogu movie that will be going into production in 2024. The film will be directed by Jon Favreau, who is also producing it alongside Kathleen Kennedy and Dave Filoni.

“I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created,” Favreau said. “The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting.”

Kennedy added, “Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have ushered into Star Wars two new and beloved characters, and this new story is a perfect fit for the big screen.”

The Mandalorian & Grogu builds off the Disney+ series

Created by Favreau, The Mandalorian debuted on Disney+ in November 2019. The series stars Pedro Pascal as a bounty hunter named Din Djarin who, in the first season of the series, finds himself protecting a young infant named Grogu.

The second season of The Mandalorian followed in October 2020, while The Mandalorian Season 3 premiered in March 2023. A fourth season is currently in development, while other Star Wars series such as The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka, and the upcoming Skeleton Crew show also play into The Mandalorian’s timeline.

Along with Pascal, The Mandalorian stars Katee Sackhoff as Bo-Katan Kryze, Carl Weathers as Greef Karga, Omid Abtahi as Penn Pershing, Taika Waititi as the voice of IG-11, Giancarlo Esposito as Moff Gideon, Emily Swallow as The Armorer, and Amy Sedaris as Peli Motto.

Which actors will reprise their Mandalorian roles for The Mandalorian & Grogu is not immediately clear at this time. 

A release date for The Mandalorian & Grogu has not yet been set by Lucasfilm. The first three seasons of The Mandalorian are currently streaming on Disney+.
