Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse

Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse Will Be a ‘Satisfying Conclusion,’ Promises Phil Lord

Phil Lord is promising fans that Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will have a “very satisfying conclusion” to the Spider-Verse trilogy.

Speaking with Deadline at the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday, Lord gave a brief update on what fans can expect from Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.

“It will be a very satisfying conclusion,” Lord said. “It goes even more emotionally deep into the relationships between Miles, Gwen, Peter B., [and Miles’] parents.”

Speaking further about how the cliffhanger in 2023’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse sets up Beyond the Spider-Verse, Lord touched on how they’ll continue to develop Miles Morales’ character in the upcoming film. “The big thing that’s interesting for Miles [in Beyond the Spider-Verse] is how do you deal with a sense of betrayal and turn it into something affirmative?” he said. “And I think that the thing that we try to do with these movies is represent goodness and show how the love that the characters in the movie have for Miles translates into his growth and success.”

Lord and Chris Miller were both heavily involved in 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and the sequel, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. The latter of the two was released in United States theaters in June 2023 and made approximately $690.5 million at the worldwide box office.

Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse currently doesn’t have a release date

Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse was originally scheduled to release in March 2024; however, it was removed from Sony Pictures Animations’ release schedule and replaced with Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire in July 2023.

Featuring a voice cast that includes Shameik Moore as Miles Morales, Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy, Brian Tyree Henry as Jeff Morales, Lauren Vélez as Rio Morales, Jake Johnson as Peter B. Parker, Jason Schwartzman as The Spot, Issa Rae as Spider-Woman, and Oscar Isaac as Spider-Man 2099, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is currently streaming on Netflix.
