Adam Driver Comments on Whether or Not He’ll Play Star Wars’ Kylo Ren Again

Adam Driver is pretty sure his time playing Star Wars’ Kylo Ren is over.

Speaking on the Smartless podcast, via ComicBook.com, Driver was asked if there was any chance that he’d someday be reprising his role as Kylo Ren in the Star Wars franchise.

“They’re doing stuff, but not with me. I’m not doing it anymore,” Driver said.

When asked if this was because Kylo Ren’s story had come to its natural conclusion, Driver replied, “Yeah.”

What Star Wars movies did Adam Driver star in?

In 2014, Driver was cast as the villainous Kylo Ren in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which was directed by J.J. Abrams and released in United States theaters in December 2015. He reprised the role for both 2017’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi and 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the latter of which killed his character off following a redemption arc that saw him reclaim his identity as Ben Solo.

Previously speaking about Kylo’s arc on The Rich Eisen Show, Driver said, “I had an overall arc in mind that [Star Wars: The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams] wanted to do, which then changed, but his idea was that — almost the opposite journey of Vader, where Vader starts the most confident, the most committed to the Dark Side, and by the last movie, he’s the most vulnerable and weak.

“He wanted to start at the opposite, this character was the most confused and vulnerable and, by the end of the three movies, would be the most committed to the Dark Side. I tried to keep that arc in mind regardless if that wound up not being the journey anyway, because it changed, obviously, while we were shooting. But I was still focused on that.”

Driver can now be seen in Michael Mann’s Ferrari, which is currently playing in United States theaters. He’s also attached to star in Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis, which does not yet have an official release date.
