Jason Momoa Addresses His Future as Aquaman in Gunn and Safran’s DCU

Jason Momoa is pretty sure that Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will be his last stint as Arthur Curry.

Speaking with Entertainment Tonight’s Ash Crossan, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom star Jason Momoa addressed reports saying the upcoming DCEU movie will mark his final time playing the titular superhero.

“I don’t necessarily want it to be the end … [but] I don’t think it’s really, like, a choice,” he said before touching on how James Gunn and Peter Safran are building their new DCU, which begins in 2024 with the animated Creature Commandos series.

He continued, “The truth of it is, I mean, if the audience loves it, then there’s a possibility … But right now, I’m like, ‘It’s not looking too good.’”

Should the proper pieces fall in place, Momoa said he’d love to continue playing the character for years to come. “Even in the next 10 years or so, like there’s a lot of cool things they can do. And I do enjoy the role and the world,” he said. “So, I mean, it just comes down to if people love it.”

Jason Momoa still wants to be part of Gunn and Safran’s DCU

While the DCEU may be ending after Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, there’s been no shortage of online rumors suggesting Momoa may be in talks to play Lobo in Gunn and Safran’s DCU. Neither Gunn, Safran, nor anyone from DC Studios has confirmed the casting at this time.

“If there’s a place in their world for me, I would love to be a part of it,” Momoa said. “This is my home. Warner and DC is definitely my home. So, that’s all I’ll say.” Regarding DC’s Main Man specifically, he added, “I was a big Lobo fan growing up, I read every comic. So that would be really cool.”

Directed by James Wan, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom also stars Patrick Wilson, Amber Heard, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Nicole Kidman, Dolph Lundgren, and Randall Park. The movie opens in United States theaters on December 22, 2023, from Warner Bros.
