James Gunn Shares ‘A+ Cosplay’ of Himself & Pom Klementieff’s Mantis

Guardians of the Galaxy writer and director James Gunn recently shared a video of Pom Klementieff meeting a fan cosplaying as Gunn at Tokyo Comic Con.

Posted on Threads, the video shows Klementieff in awe at the fan’s James Gunn cosplay, which included a t-shirt with the Guardians of the Galaxy logo on the front and the current DC logo on the back. The fan was joined by a woman cosplaying as Klementieff’s GOTG character, Mantis. “A+ Cosplay!!” Gunn wrote on the social media site.

James Gunn is part of the MCU and DCU

Gunn wrote and directed all three installments in Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, which are part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Klementieff debuted as Mantis in the second film, 2017’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and returned for Vol. 3 and the 2022 Disney+ holiday special.

The acclaimed filmmaker has also played in the DC sandbox, writing and directing the 2021 superhero film The Suicide Squad as well as its spinoff series, Peacemaker. In November 2022, Gunn began his tenure as co-CEO of DC Studios, alongside Peter Safran. In this position, Gunn and Safran will oversee a new DC shared universe and multiple Elseworlds projects like Matt Reeves’ The Batman Universe and the adult animated series Harley Quinn.

Gunn will also direct the upcoming DC Universe film, Superman: Legacy, from his own screenplay. David Corenswet has been cast as the titular Man of Steel, with Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, and Skyler Gisondo rounding out the ensemble as Lois Lane, Lex Luthor, and Jimmy Olsen, respectively.

Could Pom Klementieff join Gunn at DC?

While Klementieff is not currently attached to any role in Gunn’s DCU, she previously made an uncredited cameo appearance as a dancer in The Suicide Squad. However, the actor revealed in June 2023 that she is in an ongoing conversation with the filmmaker about joining the DCU in a more substantial role. “Yeah, we keep talking,” she said.

Gunn confirmed Klementieff’s comments soon after on Twitter, writing, “Yes, of course, [Pom Klementieff] is one of my favorite collaborators.”

The Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy and holiday special are streaming on Disney+. The Suicide Squad is currently streaming on both Netflix and Max.
