Thunderbolts MCU update

Thunderbolts’ Wyatt Russell Teases an ‘Unbelievable’ Florence Pugh, ‘Really Interesting’ Story

Wyatt Russell has given an update on Marvel Studios’ upcoming Thunderbolts movie.

Speaking with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast alongside his father, Kurt, Russell spoke about Thunderbolts, the upcoming MCU ensemble movie being directed by Jake Schreier.

“We have not started shooting [Thunderbolts],” Russell confirmed. “We’ve almost started shooting that about 14 times, but not yet.”

While noting that he hasn’t yet read a finalized script for the movie, Russell said he “has confidence the movie is going to be good.”

He continued, “I know everybody is sort of on this Marvel train right now of things not going so well. The team that they have with us, right now — you have Florence Pugh, who is arguably one of my favorite actresses going. She’s f—king unbelievable. She can, as they say, read the phone book and I’ll sit through all of it.”

Wyatt Russell confirms Thunderbolts isn’t a ‘straightforward’ Marvel movie

Complimenting the rest of the cast, Russell said, “Sebastian Stan, who has become a great friend, is incredible. David Harbor is amazing.” He also spoke on Schreier’s directing, saying, “I know Jake so well, and I know how smart Jake is and how much he cares about making something interesting and different and utilizing everyone’s talents to the best of their ability. The story that I think they’ve come up with is really interesting — I know parts of the story and how the story works, but I can’t talk about it. It’s not a straightforward Marvel movie as you’ve seen in the past.”

Russell concluded, “I think it’s going to be a lot of fun. I think it will be something hopefully Marvel fans look at and go, ‘This is something a little different.’ As far as we are approaching it, it’s time to go to work a little bit. It’s time to make a good Marvel movie.”

Thunderbolts is scheduled to release on July 25, 2025, from Marvel Studios.
