Avengers: The Kang Dynasty Writer Set for Marvel Movie

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty has officially found its writer, as Deadline is reporting that Loki’s Michael Waldron has been tapped to pen the upcoming film.

According to Deadline’s report, Waldron has become “one of Marvel’s most trusted creative minds.” Waldron first joined Marvel Studios as the creator, writer, and showrunner of Loki’s first season. Following that, he also wrote the 2022 sequel to Doctor Strange — Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Prior to the news of him writing The Kang Dynasty, Waldron had also been tapped to write its follow-up film, Avengers: Secret Wars. Both Avengers films won’t be released until 2026 and 2027, respectively, so Waldron will have plenty of time to work on both.

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty recently lost its director

Earlier this month, director Destin Daniel Cretton stepped away from directing The Kang Dynasty in what Deadline reported as an “amicable exit.” Cretton is still set to work on the Wonder Man series for Marvel, as well as a Shang-Chi sequel. As of now, The Kang Dynasty has not replaced Cretton.

The Avengers: The Kang Dynasty’s release date is now set for May 1, 2026. It was previously dated a year prior for May 2, 2025. It joined a lengthy list of Marvel delays as many movies saw rewrites and were impacted by the entertainment industry strikes that took place throughout 2023. Just recently, Deadpool 3 was pushed back to July 26, 2024.
