Mads Mikkelsen is reportedly up for the role of Doctor Doom in Marvel Studios’ Fantastic Four reboot.
According to scooper John Campea, per One Take News, Mikkelsen is one of the actors Marvel Studios is considering for Doctor Doom.
“What [Campea’s source] confirmed to me is [Marvel] has talked to Mads Mikkelsen [about] Doom,” Campea said. “Now, to be clear, I’m sure they talked to a dozen people. They did not tell me that Mads Mikkelsen has been cast as Doom. Not at all. But they were able to confirm to me that Mads Mikkelsen is one of the people they talked to for Doom.”
Doctor Doom and the Marvel Cinematic Universe
Given Doctor Doom is a longtime Fantastic Four antagonist, the character could be introduced in Matt Shakman’s upcoming film, though this has not been confirmed by Marvel at this time. Doctor Doom could also potentially be a part of 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars, given that the villain is prominently featured in both the 1984 and 2015 comic series.
Mikkelsen has already played a villain in the MCU, as he portrayed Kaecilius in 2016’s Doctor Strange; however, Marvel has cast the same actor in multiple roles before, such as Gemma Chan, who played both Minn-Erva in 2019’s Captain Marvel and Sersi in 2021’s Eternals.
On November 15, 2023, /Film said that The Mandalorian’s Pedro Pascal had signed on to play Reed Richards in the upcoming Fantastic Four movie, while Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter’s sources said the deal is not yet done and that “scheduling is a factor in whether the deal will work out.”
While the most prominent online theories suggest Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach are being looked at for the Invisible Woman/Sue Storm, the Human Torch/Johnny Storm, and the Thing/Ben Grimm, Marvel has not yet confirmed any casting news regarding Fantastic Four.
Fantastic Four is scheduled to release on May 2, 2025, from Marvel Studios.
