Sony Pictures has released the first official trailer for Madame Web ahead of the Marvel film’s debut in February 2024.
The Madame Web trailer introduces audiences to Dakota Johnson‘s Cassandra Webb, a paramedic and clairvoyant with ties to the Spider-Verse. It also prominently features Sydney Sweeney as Julia Carpenter, Marvel’s second Spider-Woman (and second Madame Web); Celeste O’Connor as Mattie Franklin, the third Spider-Woman; and Isabela Merced as Anya Corazon, also known as Araña. Cassandra’s newfound allies even briefly suit up towards the end of the trailer.

S.J. Clarkson directs Madame Web from a script by Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama. In addition to Johnson, Sweeney, O’Connor, and Merced, the film stars Tahar Rahim, Emma Roberts, Mike Epps, Adam Scott, and Zosia Mamet.
“In a switch from the typical genre, Madame Web tells the standalone origin story of one of Marvel publishing’s most enigmatic heroines,” an official synopsis reads. “The suspense-driven thriller stars Dakota Johnson as Cassandra Webb, a paramedic in Manhattan who may have clairvoyant abilities. Forced to confront revelations about her past, she forges a relationship with three young women destined for powerful futures … if they can all survive a deadly present.”
The on-screen history of Marvel’s Madame Web
Created by Dennis O’Neil and John Romita Jr., Cassandra Webb/Madame Web first appeared in 1980’s Amazing Spider-Man #210. Joan Lee voiced the Marvel clairvoyant in Spider-Man: The Animated Series in the 1990s. Susanne Blakeslee took over the role for the 2010 video game Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, in which Madame Web is a central figure. The character’s upcoming eponymous film marks her live-action debut.
To that end, Madame Web is also the next big-screen entry in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (SSU). The shared universe of licensed Marvel films kicked off in 2018 with the Tom Hardy-led Venom. It continued with the release of Venom: Let There Be Carnage in 2021 and Morbius in 2022. Following Madame Web, the Aaron Taylor-Johnson-starring Kraven the Hunter is due to hit theaters in August 2024. The currently-untitled Venom 3 will then arrive in November 2024.
