Captain America: Brave New World rumor Sam Wilson

Report: Captain America: Brave New World to Undergo Extensive Reshoots

The Marvel Studios film Captain America: Brave New World (formerly known as Captain America: New World Order) — starring Anthony Mackie and Harrison Ford — will reportedly reshoot several major scenes before its theatrical release.

As reported by The Hot Mic‘s Jeff Sneider (via Discussing Film), the fourth movie in the Captain America series and the first to center on Mackie’s Sam Wilson will require extensive reshoots following negative test scores. These reshoots are said to be scheduled for January to May 2024. Moreover, three “major” sequences from the initial filming are supposedly being cut.

Captain America: Brave New World was previously slated to open on July 26, 2024. However, Marvel’s release calendar has shifted with the ending of the SAG-AFTRA strike. The film has now been moved to February 14, 2025.

Why Mackie’s Sam Wilson is now Captain America

Sam Wilson made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier, using the hero alias of the Falcon. He became close with Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers, the original Captain America. Sam eventually joined the Avengers and appeared in several more films. At the end of 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, Steve returned from an alternate past as an old man, staying just long enough to pass his shield and alias on to Sam.

Mackie went on to reprise Sam in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, a 2021 Disney+ series which takes place after the five-year gap in Avengers: Endgame. Sebastian Stan co-starred as Bucky Barnes/the Winter Soldier, another character with close ties to Steve. Both heroes grappled with Steve’s final request, but by the end of the series, Sam accepted the mantle and became the new Captain America.

Captain America: Brave New World is directed by Julius Onah from a screenplay written by Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson. Mackie will be joined by returning TFATWS stars Danny Ramirez and Carl Lumbly, respectively reprising the roles of Joaquin Torres and Isaiah Bradley. Additionally, The Incredible Hulk stars Tim Blake Nelson and Liv Tyler will return as Marvel villain Samuel Sterns/Leader and Betty, respectively. Harrison Ford will take on the role of Thaddeus Ross.
