Deadpool 3 release date pushed

Rob Liefeld Jokes About Deadpool 3 Delay in Ryan Reynolds Birthday Post

Amid Deadpool 3‘s rescheduling, Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld has poked fun at the delay while wishing Ryan Reynolds a happy birthday on social media.

Liefeld took to Instagram to celebrate Reynolds’ 47th birthday with a behind-the-scenes photo of the duo on set. The photo is edited to make Liefeld and Reynolds appear older. The caption mocks the release date change of the Merc with the Mouth’s threequel, while also teasing the appearance of the Time Variance Authority (TVA) from Disney+’s Loki. “Me & Ryan at the Deadpool 3 premiere,” Liefeld said. “Happy Birthday Ryan. We’ll always have October. Photo cred, TVA.”

Previously scheduled for release on May 3, 2024, Deadpool 3 was removed from Marvel Studios‘ release calendar due to the ongoing Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) strike. The threequel’s director, Shawn Levy, confirmed that the production was “halfway through filming” before the start of the strike. While the strike could potentially be resolved by the end of this year, the time it would take to restart production on Deadpool 3 would likely make it impossible to meet a summer release.

Deadpool 3’s rumored Marvel cameos from the Fox era

As the Merc with the Mouth’s debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe after two successful installments under Fox in 2016 and 2018, Deadpool 3 sees Reynolds finally team up with Hugh Jackman reprising his star-making role as X-Men‘s Wolverine. While story details have not been released, rumors suggest the Merc with the Mouth messing with the multiverse in his chance encounter with Wolverine and becomes a target of the TVA. Adding credibility to the rumor is the confirmation of Jennifer Garner reprising her role as Elektra Natchios of Fox’s Daredevil movie from 2003 as well as on-set photos of Deadpool and Wolverine fighting against the backdrop of a rocky-looking Fox logo.

Director Levy weighed in on the rumors regarding the possible cameos from actors who appeared in the Marvel movies produced under Fox. “I love the proliferation of casting rumors on the internet, because I never have to say what’s real and what’s fantasy, so I’m just going to go with the very cliche ‘no comment’ on all things casting [with] Deadpool 3,” Levy said. “I will say, we’re lucky on this one. There’s certainly — is this an answer? A lot of the internet rumors are completely false, but some of them aren’t.”

Marvel Studios’ Deadpool 3 does not have a release date.
