Actor Lars Mikkelsen has revealed that he didn’t go back to rewatch Star Wars Rebels while preparing to play Grand Admiral Thrawn in the Disney+ series Ahsoka.
How does Lars Mikkelsen describe Thrawn in Ahsoka?
In an interview with EW, Mikkelsen was asked if he rewatched any of Star Wars Rebels — the animated series in which he first voiced Thrawn — to prepare for his live-action portrayal. The actor said he didn’t, as though it’s the same character, he “wanted to create something new,” then went on to describe the character.
“He’s a top strategist,” Mikkelsen stated. “He’s always seven paces ahead of anybody else. And ruthless, of course. But only when it’s needed, actually. I think he thrives also with the creativity of the surroundings. I mean, he’s not using people in a bad way. He’s using their creativity to reach his goals.”
“Set after the fall of the Empire, Ahsoka follows the former Jedi knight Ahsoka Tano as she investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy,” reads the series’ official description.
Rosario Dawson stars as Ahsoka Tano in the limited series after the character made her live-action debut in The Mandalorian. Joining Dawson is Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren and Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla, and the late Ray Stevenson.
