James Gunn Reveals Kevin Feige’s Reaction to First MCU F-Bomb in GOTG 3

The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 features the first MCU f-bomb. Director James Gunn has now said he was concerned it would get removed by Kevin Feige.

What are the origins of the f-bomb in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3?

Speaking to JOE.ie, Gunn spoke about the first MCU f-bomb, which occurs in a scene where the Guardians are rushing to get into a car and Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord screams at Nebula (Karen Gillan) to open the door. The scene wasn’t planned, according to Gunn, but it was the director who prompted him to say it.

Gunn went on to note that they ended up keeping the line in the film. However, he was concerned it would be the first time Disney would have to ask him to remove something.

“We put it in the cut and it was just so damn funny. And I was like ‘Oh man, Disney is going to make me take this out, aren’t they?,'” Gunn said. “They’ve never made me do anything. And I’m like, ‘This is the first time they’re gonna make me do something, and I’m going to be bummed out.'”

Gunn went on to say that MCU boss Kevin Feige revealed to Gunn that the Russo Brothers had put an f-bomb in an early cut of Avengers: Endgame, but removed it because they didn’t want it to be their legacy. Gunn joked that he had no problem with it, though, which Feige also found funny.

“I said ‘What about that f-bomb?’ And [Kevin Feige] is like, ‘Well, you know, the Russo brothers had one in [‘Avengers: Endgame’] at one point,” said Gunn. “And, you know, it got a big applause, but at the end of the day, the Russo brothers were like… They didn’t want that to be their legacy. And Kevin said ‘if you want that to be your legacy, then sure.’ And I said, ‘Kevin if you think you’re scaring me away instead of just enticing me even more to put this in the movie you’re crazy.’ And so that’s how it happened. And then he laughed his ass off.”

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is now available in movie theaters.
