James Gunn on Replacing Miley Cyrus as Mainframe in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 director James Gunn has commented on Miley Cyrus being replaced as the character of Mainframe in the sequel.

What did James Gunn say about Miley Cyrus being replaced in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3?

On Twitter, the director was asked if Miley Cyrus was unable to reprise her voice role from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, leading to her being replaced by Tara Strong. The Twitter user also asked if Mainframe was the same character as in the second movie despite the voice change. Gunn responded to both questions in one tweet, saying “Yes. Yes.”

Cyrus provided the voice for Mainframe in the post-credits scene of 2017’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Mainframe is a member of the Ravagers, led by Sylvester Stallone’s character Stakar Ogord. The actress who played Mainframe in Cyrus’ stead in the latest sequel, Tara Strong, also voiced Miss Minutes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe Disney+ series Loki.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was directed by James Gunn and was released in theaters on May 5. The sequel heavily features the backstory of Rocket — the armed and snarky raccoon voiced by Bradley Cooper — and his history with the film’s villain, The High Evolutionary (played by Chukwudi Iwuji). Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is now playing in theaters.
