In addition to her numerous acting roles, Evangeline Lilly is also the writer of The Squickerwonkers children’s novels. However, that experience as a writer hasn’t translated to greater creative input in her films and TV shows. Regardless, in a new interview with Forbidden Planet TV, Lilly explained that she felt empowered by Marvel Studio’s willingness to incorporate her ideas for character, Hope van Dyne/the Wasp, into the script for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
“I have a lot of opinions and I’d love to share them and I’d love to give you my thoughts on all of this,” said Lilly (via Comic Book). “And to do it with confidence and to do it with clarity, instead of, before I even speak, already… brushing my own ideas under the carpet, which is an old habit of mine… instead [of] saying just really openly, ‘Here are my thoughts.’ And that’s a really vulnerable thing to do without the precursor. It actually feels really unnerving because you’re making yourself vulnerable to somebody not liking it, without saying, ‘You might not like this and that’s okay.’ And that was really empowering for me to be heard and to have my ideas actually really, really well-received and valued and then to see them wind up in the final script.”

For the upcoming sequel, Lilly will once again be joined by Paul Rudd as Scott Long/Ant-Man. Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfeiffer will also return as the original Ant-Man and the Wasp, Hank Pym and Janet van Dyne. Kathryn Newton will portray Scott’s daughter, Cassie Lang, while Jonathan Majors will play Kang the Conqueror. Peyton Reed will direct the sequel from a script by Loki head writer Jeff Loveness.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will hit theaters on July 28, 2023.
