Netflix is Developing Irredeemable and Incorruptible As a Movie

Two of Boom! Studios’ superhero titles are getting merged into a single feature film at Netflix. Deadline is reporting that Irredeemable and Incorruptible are in development at Netflix with Jeymes Samuel as the director.

Irredeemable was created by Mark Waid with artist Peter Krause in 2009, while Incorruptble debuted later that year from Waid and artist Jean Diaz. In Irredeemable, the Superman-like hero, The Plutonian, slaughtered his teammates in The Paradigm and went on a worldwide rampage. The surviving heroes attempted to stop their former teammate and discover why he went bad. Conversely, Incorruptible followed Max Damage, a reformed villain who decided that he needed to become a hero in response to The Plutonian’s fall from grace. Max’s power allows him to get stronger the longer he is awake. However, his mental state deteriorates if he doesn’t eventually sleep.

Soul co-director Kemp Powers will write the script for the film, which will be produced by Jay-Z and James Lassiter.

According to Deadline, the film will combine the story by focusing on The Plutonian and Max.

“When the world’s most powerful and beloved superhero, the god-like Plutonian, inexplicably begins slaughtering everyone on Earth, the only person that can stop him is his former arch-nemesis, the super-powered villain Max Damage. Unwillingly thrust into the role of savior, Max must uncover the Plutonian’s mysterious past in order to discover how to bring him down. But can he discover what made the Plutonian go crazy before his own degenerative super powers cause him to lose his mind?”

Additionally, Waid released a statement in support of the new adaptation.

“Peter and I are thrilled to death that a writer and a director we both admire are bringing Irredeemable to life in a faithful and respectful way while inventing their own twists and turns,” said Waid. “Their unique take on the comic makes it unlike any anti-hero story I’ve ever heard, and I love it.”

Incorruptible was originally set up as a live-action film at 20th Century Fox in 2016. Adam McKay signed on to direct the film, but it never came to fruition.
