Dune is getting another chance to add to its box office total. After netting 10 Oscar nominations this morning, the film is headed back to theaters for a limited time.
According to Deadline, Warner Bros. is re-releasing Dune in 300-500 locations starting this weekend. So far, the film has managed to gross just shy of $400 million worldwide. That’s an impressive figure considering its day-and-date release on HBO Max. WB previously gave Dune another limited re-release in IMAX theaters back in December. The movie is also available on Blu-ray and DVD, and it will make its way back to HBO Max on March 10.
Earlier today, Dune scored nominations for Best Picture, Cinematography, Production Design, Editing, Costume Design, Make-up/hairstyling, Original Score, Visual Effects, and Sound. Unfortunately, Denis Villeneuve was unable to clinch his own nod for Best Director. But he did receive a nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay alongside co-writers Jon Spaihts and Eric Roth. Villeneuve is currently gearing up to shoot Dune: Part Two, which will hit theaters on October 20, 2023.
