Ron Perlman Refuses To Give Up on Hellboy 3

In 2004, Guillermo del Toro directed the first Hellboy movie with Ron Perlman in the title role. Their adaptation of Mike Mignola’s comic book hero was a modest success, and it led to Hellboy II: The Golden Army in 2008. However, the sequel underperformed and Hellboy 3 never went forward. Instead, director Neil Marshall rebooted Hellboy in 2019 with David Harbour in the lead. Regardless, Perlman isn’t ready to give up on making Hellboy 3. Ron Perlman refuses.

During a new interview with the Independent, Perlman explained why he isn’t exactly eager to play Hellboy again. But Perlman also feels that the fans are owed a true conclusion to del Toro’s saga.

“Am I eager to do Hellboy 3? No, I’m 71 f***ing years old,” said Perlman.“We owe this to the fans, and we should give it to them because it would be an epic conclusion. So Guillermo, if you’re reading, I’m not done pounding you to get this f**king thing done.”

Perlman makes it sound like del Toro is the only one that he has to convince. Even if del Toro has time in his schedule and was willing to return, the Hellboy rights holders would also have to put up the financing, find a studio, and everything else that entails.

That said, the Hellboy reboot came in far below its box office expectations. So perhaps the powers that be could be talked into getting the gang back together. Stranger things have happened. But as long as Perlman is willing, the dream of Hellboy 3 isn’t dead.
