Spider-Man: No Way Home Preview Night Hits $50 Million

Let’s be real: no one should be surprised that Spider-Man: No Way Home will be this year’s box office champion. But it’s already off to a great start. Including Thursday afternoon and evening showings, the No Way Home preview night total is estimated at $50 million. Additionally, those numbers combined with the rest of Friday’s screenings could go as high as $100 million for the “opening day.”

For context, No Way Home‘s preview night only was only surpassed by Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($57 million in 2015) and Avengers: Endgame ($60 million in 2019). In the pandemic era, Black Widow was Marvel’s previous opening night champion with a $13.2 million. But even when compared to the Spider-Man franchise’s previous preview night champion, Spider-Man: Homecoming‘s $15.4 million opening night in 2017, No Way Home far surpassed those numbers.

AMC Theaters also announced that No Way Home set a record for a December preview night, with over 1.1 million tickets across America.

“Needless to say, we are ever so happy to see a record-setting number of people returning to the cinema to capture the magic offered at AMC movie theatres,” said AMC Chairman and CEO Adam Aron in a statement. “Yesterday for its opening night, we hosted some 1.1 million guests to watch Spider-Man: No Way Home at our U.S. theatres. Our congratulations go to Sony Pictures for this wonderfully successful new movie.”

Previous weekend estimates have placed No Way Home at a $150 million opening weekend. But if the demand continues through Saturday and Sunday, it could go even higher.
