It looks as though Disney animation will continue down the path of Moana and Raya and the Last Dragon, with an all-new adventure movie from those two films’ co-director Don Hall. Hall, who also codirected Big Hero 6 and Winnie the Pooh (2011) will work with writer and codirector Qui Nguyen, an acclaimed playwright who also cowrote Raya. The new film, previously entitled Searcher Clade, now boasts the more striking title of Strange World.

Per the official logline, “The original action-adventure journeys deep into an uncharted and treacherous land where fantastical creatures await the legendary Clades, a family of explorers whose differences threaten to topple their latest—and by far— most crucial mission.” Disney reportedly cast Alan Tudyk in an unspecified role.

Reported casting breakdowns described the lead character of Ethan Clade as a bi-racial 14-year-old who is “very typical as far as teenagers go. Playful and quick-witted, but can also retreat. He can be wise, but he isn’t particularly tough.” That’s presumably him on the left in that concept image.
No doubt the adventure will give him a chance to prove his resiliency. We’ll find out on Nov 23, 2023.
