Sonic the Hedgehog’s mid-credits scene memorably featured an appearance by Miles “Tails” Prowler, a fan-favorite character from the original video games who also happens to be Sonic’s best friend. And it looks like he’s going to have a much bigger role in the sequel. In a new tweet, voice actress Colleen O’Shaughnessey confirmed that she will once again return to voice the anthropomorphic fox in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Check out her announcement below.
Taking my old pal Tails for another adventure. Thrilled to announce I’m the voice of Miles “Tails” Prower in #SonicMovie2! Can’t wait for y’all to see him on the big screen.

Although the Sonic movies have recruited some big names to bring the games’ characters to life, O’Shaughnessey’s casting proves that the filmmakers aren’t ignoring the past. O’Shaughnessey has been the voice of Tails since 2014, beginning her tenure with Cartoon Network’s Sonic Boom TV series. With Sonic 2, she joins a voice cast that also includes a returning Ben Schwartz as the title character and Idris Elba, who will make his first appearance as Knuckles.

Tails has been a vital part of the Sonic franchise ever since Sega released Sonic the Hedgehog 2 in 1992. He serves as the games’ resident mechanical whiz and he can also fly by spinning his tails like helicopter blades. Tails’ popularity also allowed him to headline his own spinoff games, including two titles that were released on Sega’s short-lived Game Gear handheld console.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will hit theaters on April 8, 2022.
