Buzz Soars to Infinity and Beyond in Pixar’s Lightyear Trailer

Toy Story fans will be happy to hear that Lightyear finally got a trailer. The new origin story exists outside of Toy Story continuity, highlighting the character on whom the toy was supposedly modeled. It will focus on the story of Buzz Lightyear and his path to becoming the most-famous space ranger. Finding Dory co-director Angus MacLane is attached to the project, helming his first solo movie. Pixar has announced that Avengers vet Chris Evans will voice the charismatic protagonist.

In the recently released video, Buzz is taking off Earth and speeding towards the Sun with his spaceship. There are several scenes of Buzz’s training to master his skills, and there are a few glimpses of him exploring new planets in space. Ultimately, the trailer has a certain Star Wars vibe, but many hints point to Pixar’s usual subtle irony as well. Apparently, there are plenty more space ranger contenders who will race against Buzz for the much-coveted position.
