Last week, Sony broke the Internet when it released the first trailer for the upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home movie. The video revealed that the story would take on the multiverse, as it featured some villains from previous takes on Spider-Man at Sony. Tom Holland’s Peter Parker can be seen dealing with Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus, who opposed Tobey Maguire’s titular hero in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2. Fans are now expecting to see different versions of the web-slinger as well, including the one portrayed by Andrew Garfield. However, despite some alleged leaked photos of him on set, the British actor insists he won’t take part in the story.
“I understand why people are freaking out about the concept of that because I’m a fan as well. You can’t help but imagine scenes and moments of ‘Oh, my God, how f***ing cool would it be if they did that?’” he said while talking with Variety. “But it’s important for me to say on the record that this is not something I’m aware I am involved in. But I know I’m not going to be able to say anything that will convince anyone that I don’t know what’s happening. No matter what I say, I’m f***ed. It’s either going to be really disappointing for people or it’s going to be really exciting.”

The 38-year old already denied his return as Spidey once before. His run as Peter Parker spanned over a couple of movies in 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man and the 2014 sequel. It’s worth noting that at least one of the bad guys who locked horns with Garfield’s Spider-Man — Jamie Foxx’s Electro — will appear in the freshly established multiverse.
Spider-Man: No Way Home will debut in theaters on Dec. 17.
