Bassam Tariq In Talks To Direct Marvel Studios’ Blade Reboot Film

It’s been two years since Marvel Studios announced a Blade reboot with Mahershala Ali in the title role. However, a director has finally been chosen. According to Deadline, Bassam Tariq is Marvel’s choice to helm Blade. But the report also states that Tariq’s deal to direct the reboot hasn’t closed yet.

Tariq is best known for directing Mogul Mowgli, which featured Riz Ahmed in the leading role. Deadline’s report states that Ali, Kevin Feige, and other Marvel executives have been meeting potential directors since last fall. After hiring Stacy Osei-Kuffour to write the script, “it was Tariq’s vision that ultimately won all parties over.”

Stephen Norrington directed the first Blade film in 1998, which also helped set the stage for the modern comic book blockbusters. Wesley Snipes played the half-human/half-vampire antihero across three films directed by Norrington, Guillermo del Toro, and David S. Goyer.

To date, there have been no vampires on screen in the MCU. Regardless, Loki season 1 mentioned vampires by name as creatures that Mobius had previously met. It’s also unclear if the new Blade will be one of the few Marvel movies to earn a R-rating. Thus far, Feige and company have only committed to a R-rating for Deadpool 3.

What do you think about Tariq as the director of Blade? What do you want to see in the reboot? Let us know in the comment section below!
