Earlier this month, Prime Video scored its latest hit with The Tomorrow War, which hit the platform over the Fourth of July weekend and overcame a barrage of lukewarm reviews to become the top streaming release of the summer. With this, it’s no surprise that Amazon is already considering the film’s sequel potential. According to Deadline, the studio has begun talks with Skydance about The Tomorrow War 2.
Chris Pratt stars in the new film as Dan Forester, a biology teacher and ex-Green Beret who travels 30 years into the future to join the fight against an army of alien invaders before they can wipe out the human race. The movie was originally planned for a theatrical release. But thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, Amazon secured its distribution rights for $200 million. Aside from Pratt, Amazon is hoping to bring back the entire supporting cast for the sequel. That includes Yvonne Strahovski, Betty Gilpin, Sam Richardson, Edwin Hodge and J.K. Simmons. If all goes well, Chris McKay and Zach Dean will return as director and screenwriter, respectively.

McKay actually indicated his openness to a sequel during a recent interview with MovieWeb. Additionally, while speaking with Entertainment Tonight, he teased that Gilpin, who plays Dan’s wife, could have an expanded role in another installment.
In the meantime, Skydance is also working on a sequel to Netflix’s The Old Guard, which premiered last year.
