Patty Jenkins’ Star Wars: Rogue Squadron Will Honor the Books and Video Games

Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy infamously once said that the Star Wars movies have no source material to draw from. That’s only true if someone ignores the various Star Wars novels, comics, video games, role playing games, and more. And while most of the original stories are no longer canon, they can still be a useful resource. For example, director Patty Jenkins’ Star Wars: Rogue Squadron is an original story. But Jenkins is also very familiar with the Rogue Squadron stories that came before her.

Via Heroic Hollywood, Jenkins told the Associated Press that her movie will honor the Rogue Squadron stories from the previous spinoff material.

“The Michael Stackpole books and the video games and all of the Rogue Squadron books, there’s an incredible history that’s really important to honor,” said Jenkins. “And yet, it must be brought to a new age, because we have to tell a new story with it and so you’re trying to blend the best of everything and make it the great fighter-pilot movie, which I’ve always wanted to make, as well. It’s a big brew of things that you’re trying to put together and still try to keep a simple story.”
