Borderlands Confirms the End of Production With the First Look at Claptrap

Longtime Borderlands fans are going to have to wait a bit longer to see how their favorite human characters will appear in Lionsgate’s upcoming movie. However, our first proper glimpse at Claptrap is finally here. After nearly three months of shooting, the studio (via IGN) has announced that the highly-anticipated video game adaptation has wrapped production. To mark the occasion, they also shared a new image of the one-wheeled robot, who will be voiced by Jack Black in the film. Check it out for yourself below.

Looking at the photo, it doesn’t look like the filmmakers took many liberties with Claptrap’s original design. In fact, he’s virtually indistinguishable from his video game counterpart. All the bells and whistles are there: the trapezoidal shape, the skinny arms, and the lone circular eye. They also managed to capture his rusty yellow paint job in impressive detail.

In the games, Claptrap is CL4P-TP, an all-purpose robot manufactured by the Hyperion corporation. Apart from providing the occasional helpful hint to players, he’s also known for his hyperactive personality. So it makes sense that a high-energy actor like Black was chosen to bring him to life onscreen. Lionsgate previously released a silhouetted image of the character along with other similar images of the movie’s cast, including Kevin Hart’s Roland and Cate Blanchett’s Lilith.

Eli Roth is directing Borderlands from a script penned by Craig Mazin.
