You can officially add Labyrinth to the list of mid-’80s genre tentpoles getting new releases on 4K this year. In honor of the movie’s 35th anniversary, fans will be able to watch Jim Henson’s cult fantasy epic in ultra high-definition later this summer.
Via Collider, the new Blu-ray also comes loaded with special features, including 25 minutes of never-before-seen content. Henson’s son, Brian Henson, who voiced Hoggle in the film and also worked as a puppeteer coordinator, can be heard on new audio commentary. Viewers can also watch a handful of screen tests for the role of Sarah. Aside from Jennifer Connelly, who actually landed the part, there were several other actresses who tried out to play the character. The list includes Molly Ringwald, Tracey Gold, and Claudia Wells, to name just a few.
The 4K release also gives fans the option of hearing the musical breaks in the classic theatrical 2-channel fashion or in 5.1 surround. If that’s not reason enough to shell out the money for this new collector’s edition, viewers can also find several deleted and alternate scenes.

Meanwhile, TriStar Pictures remains committed to producing a follow-up to Henson’s film. Original Doctor Strange helmer Scott Derrickson signed on to direct the sequel last year, with Maggie Levin writing the script. Brian Henson and his sister, Lisa, are also onboard as executive producer and producer, respectively.
Labyrinth’s 4K collector’s edition will hit stores on August 17. You can check out the box art for the Blu-ray below.
