Black Widow Hits Disney+ and Theaters In July, Shang-Chi Also Delayed

Nearly a year after Black Widow was delayed the first time, the shoe has finally dropped for Marvel’s next film. Disney and Marvel Studios have announced that Black Widow has been delayed one last time to Friday, July 9. Additionally, Black Widow will be a simultaneous release in theaters and on Disney+ with Premier Access. That means fans who want to pay $30 for Premier Access can simply watch the film at home.

“Today’s announcement reflects our focus on providing consumer choice and serving the evolving preferences of audiences,” explained Disney’s Kareem Daniel. “By leveraging a flexible distribution strategy in a dynamic marketplace that is beginning to recover from the global pandemic, we will continue to employ the best options to deliver The Walt Disney Company’s unparalleled storytelling to fans and families around the world.”

As part of the theatrical shift, Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings has also been pushed back. It’s new date is September 3, 2021. However, it’s unclear if it will also be simultaneously available on Disney+ and in theaters.

Disney also lined up new dates for several other upcoming films. Cruella will get a Disney+ Premier Access and theatrical release on Friday, May 28. Ryan Reynolds’ Free Guy will follow on August 13, with The King’s Man following on December 22.

For now, Marvel’s Eternals is still set for a November release.
