Alamo Drafthouse Will Host Lord of the Rings Cast Reunion Q&As

Earlier this week, Alamo Drafthouse filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy following a year of virtual inactivity due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, this doesn’t necessarily spell the end for the decades-old theater chain. Reports indicate the company is undergoing corporate restructuring to keep the lights on for a little while longer. And now, Alamo Drafthouse is looking to help other struggling local cinemas by revisiting one of the most beloved movie series of all time. Later this month, the Drafthouse will begin screening all three films in the original Lord of the Rings trilogy. Additionally, several cast members will be on hand to answer questions from fans.

These screenings are being held in honor of the 20th anniversary of The Fellowship of the Ring, which hit theaters in 2001. The guest list for the upcoming Q&As include Sean Astin, Cate Blanchett, Orlando Bloom, Billy Boyd, Ian McKellen, Dominic Monaghan, Viggo Mortensen, Andy Serkis, Liv Tyler, and Elijah Wood. Director Peter Jackson will make an appearance as well. The organizers have also enlisted Stephen Colbert to moderate the panel. Fans can submit their questions now through March 10 using the hashtag #LOTR20 on Twitter.

Fortunately, the screenings aren’t exclusive to Drafthouse theaters. Indie theater owners can also fill out request forms to screen the Q&As at their locations.

This isn’t the first time the Lord of the Rings cast and crew have reunited for a good cause. Last summer, they gathered virtually for Josh Gad’s Reunited Apart YouTube series to raise money for No Kid Hungry. Back in December, several of the actors joined Project Northmoore, which aimed to turn author J.R.R. Tolkein’s old house in Oxford into a center dedicated to studying his work.

The Fellowship of the Ring will screen on March 25. It will be followed by The Two Towers on April 1 and The Return of the King on April 8. Tickets are available here.
